This panoramic is from the new observation platforms at the Sears Tower. They are retractable glass cages that extend out from the side of the building. The first step is a little freaky, but they are really cool.

Stepping out on a glass panel would be freaky. I didn't know that people swam in the canals. Are they clean?
The first step out is freaky for sure. Once you are out on it it's not bad. I will say that one thing that surprised me is how clean everything does look, for a big city. After the Chicago fire the city plan made seemed to make general beauty a priority. Nicely groomed little green spaces every where and things like that. Though the color of the water isnt encouraging it does look cleaner than you would expect. Not a lot of floating debris. There seems to be a lot of civilian traffic in the water ways. I was still shocked to see a pack of kayaks though
I, too, was surprised to see how clean Chicago looked in your photos. I'm glad you posted these, esp. China Town & the glass walkway.
